JOINT MEETING

JOINT MEETING

KPFC will be hosting a Joint Meeting for parent leaders throughout Kentucky for training, networking, skill-building, and driving the family movement forward on Feb. 28 – 29, 2012 at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort.

Joint Meeting participants include Family Liaisons and KY Family Peer Support Specialists ~ highly skilled leaders from various regions throughout the state. Their role is to help empower other parent/caregivers, aid families as they navigate  the System of Care, assist families in building their leadership abilities, teach appropriate advocacy skills and build-up emerging parents to become leaders themselves.

The Joint Meeting also consists of RIAC/LIAC parent representatives who are members of the State Family Advisory Council. This Council takes barriers as well as successes to the State Inter-agency Council for feedback and consultation. At the Joint Meeting, SFAC members get a better understanding of what their role is on the RIAC/LIAC, how to use their voice to speak up for other parents of children with social, emotional and behavioral challenges and have voting rights on the Council. They also receive trainings on various topics such as special education, how to partner with professionals, bullying, etc. With those trainings, they are able to go back to their community and share their knowledge with other parents/caregivers.

KPFC is proud of our parent leaders who emerge to build a Family Driven/Youth Guided System of Care. We couldn’t do it with dedicated parents who believe in our mission, vision and passion.
