Purpose and Scope of Services
WHO:
- KPFC peer support services are designed for youth (0-18yrs) and families of youth with a severe emotional disorder (SED) or at risk for SED*.
- Youth and families of youth with current systems involvement** take priority. However, services are available to youth and families without current system involvement, to help prevent child removal or justice involvement.
- KPFC’s services are accessible and equitable – there is no fee, co-pay, or insurance required for KPFC Peer Support Services.
WHAT:
- KPFC peer support services includes a range of individual and group supports*** designed to help youth and families manage behavioral health challenges.
- Services are based on the self-identified needs of the customer and include elements of education, skill development, trauma-informed care, and best practices.
WHERE:
- Services are focused primarily in six service regions of the state, as defined by DCBS (Department for Community Based Services), but may be provided anywhere.
- Most services are provided virtually, with limited face-to-face meetings, in response to common access barriers experienced by KPFC customers.
HOW:
- KPFC peer support service providers are all certified as Adult, Family, and/or Youth Peer Support Specialists.
- A referral form is required for KPFC’s peer support services, which may either be completed by a specific referral source, or in the form of a self-referral.
- Click here to make a referral: KPFC Peer Support Referral Form.
*SED is a mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder that significantly limits a child’s ability to function in school, family, or community activities.
**”Systems involvement” means the child welfare, justice, or court system. In Kentucky, this refers to DCBS, DJJ and the AOC.
**SMART Recovery groups, Nurturing Parenting classes, Kinship Care support groups, Youth Cafes, and Parent Cafes are examples of group offerings provided to assist with both mental health and substance use recovery-related needs.
Funding
KPFC is privileged to be able to provide services due to the generosity of others on three, different levels:
- Federal: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) Statewide Family Network grant funding
- State: Kentucky’s Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental, and Intellectual Disabilities (DBHDID) contractual System of Care funding (KY SIX)
- Local: Other smaller entities and community providers (ex. System of Care partner grants)
