Purpose and Scope of Services
WHO:
- KPFC peer support services are designed for youth (0-18yrs) and families of youth with a serious emotional disturbance (SED) or at risk for an SED. *SED is a mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder that significantly limits a child’s ability to function in school, family, or community activities.
- Youth and families of youth with current systems involvement take priority. However, services are also available to youth and families without current system involvement, to help prevent child removal or justice involvement. “Systems involvement” means the child welfare, justice, or court system. In Kentucky, this refers to DCBS, DJJ and the AOC.
- KPFC’s services are accessible and equitable – there is no fee, co-pay, or insurance required to receive KPFC Peer Support Services.
WHAT:
- KPFC peer support services include a range of individual and group supports designed to help youth and families manage behavioral health challenges.
- Services are based on the self-identified needs of the customer and include elements of education, skill development, trauma-informed care, and best practices.
- Services and Supports typically include the following types of activities

- Consultation and Advocacy
- Family & Youth Voice Opportunities
- Kinship Care Support Groups
- Nurturing Parenting Classes
- Parent Cafes
- SMART (Self-Management and Recovery Training) Recovery Meetings
- SMART Recovery Family & Friends Meetings
- Specialized Training Opportunities
- Systems Navigation Support
